Reduce personal trash output.
Written by John Taveira, on 31-01-2010 11:43
Recycle and composting all your waste can reduce your curbside trash from four household garbage dumpsters per month to two bags of non -recyclables and non-composting material. Save money on trash pickup, share the cost with friends. ;)
Fall planting

when you do your fall planting buy from garden centers that recycle or reuse your black plastic pots. Many smaller garden centers that grow the plants are happy to have them back after you transplant your flowers.

Improve your green I.Q. with Green Foot
Written by Bill Schwartz, on 09-12-2008 14:27
Are we as a nation ready to take personal responsibility for our actions? Beyond all the slogans and flag waving, are we ready to make sacrifices for the good of the nation? I believe in Obama and I believe he’s going to ask us to step up to the plate and make changes in how we live. But are we ready? And, if so, how much will we do? Let’s talk grass. No, not the kind you smoke, but the kind you walk on, picnic on, play with the kids on, and most of all the kind you water.

Grass is pretty when it’s green and lush. But it takes a lot of water and fertilizer and weed killer to keep a lawn looking great. I don’t think we should outlaw lawns in Southern California or other desert regions of the country, but I do think we should treat lawns like SUVs. If you’re servicing a big lawn, you should pay for it…and I’m not just talking about the water that you’re already paying for. I’m talking about a water guzzling tax. That’s right, if you want your green grass, you should be charged for it. By the way, a big percentage of fertilizer used on grass ends up washing into the sewer system and taken on out to the ocean.

Does digging up some lawn and planting low water use plants sound extreme to you? If it does, I have a better idea. Trade in some grass and start your own vegetable garden. Helping feed yourself is more than healthy. It helps cut down on trips to the market so that saves gas and saving gas puts money in your pocket and helps the environment.

Does diggin up some lawn sound so crazy now?

When you want to go buy fast food, go to your local organic grower instead and "have a carrot" 8)

Dryer lint is also "compostable" so instead of placing it in the trash, compost it.
