Tokoname is home to one of the Six Ancient Kilns areas in Japan. It is said to have remains of over 3,000 ancient kiln sites along the Chita penninsula, where Tokoname is located. Although the Tokoname area kilns craft several types of ware, they are most famous for their Kyusu (teapots). the use of the fine clay unique to the Tokoname area results in a very refined appearance, and allows for many unusual and intricate designs.
