Saw Whet / Screech Owl House
The saw-whet / Screech Owl house is designed specifically for Saw-Whet Owls and Screech Owls. Both of these owls have tough competition for natural cavities because they are so small. The charming seven-inch owls can become quite friendly with humans. Screech Owls Feed on Insects and Mice They are great to have around not only because they are so darn cute but they also feast on insects and mice. What a great alternative to chemical pest deterrents! Because screech and saw-whet owls may occasionally snag other small birds, you may want to position this owl house away from other birdhouses. Critter Safe Feeders We offer a variety of "critter-safe" feeders and houses for birds, small mammals, and beneficial insects.

It is best to mount the Saw-Whet/Screech Owl house on the side of a tall tree in a wooded area, 10 to 15 feet above ground. Once installed (easy instructions included), empty the included bag of wood chips into the house. These wood chips keep eggs from rolling around, although the Screech Owl is not known to use nesting material.
Made From White Pine Constructed of sturdy white pine, it is rough-sawn, to give fledglings a foothold when they are ready to climb out of the nest. The box will weather to a natural gray and blend with its outdoor surroundings.
Well Insulated The one-inch-thick pine provides excellent insulation, both from summer heat and winter cold. It is also light-colored to keep it cool in the summer, since many baby birds die in the nest from heat. Ventilation is provided at the top of the sides as well as in the four bottom corners. These bottom holes also provide drainage. No paint or stain is used, as these are toxic to birds.
Designed to Keep It Dry The top is slanted for water drainage, and it overhangs the entrance hole. The floor is also recessed slightly to keep it dry. The house is deep, to prevent predators from reaching the nest.
Easy to Clean The side tilts out for easy cleaning of the house after the birds are gone. A latch at the bottom holds it securely in place.
Sturdy construction and species-specific design make this a great addition to any backyard.
