Martins Birdhouse – Made by Coveside. Intended for use with the Purple Martin (Progne Subis). Made from eastern white pine, a second growth tree, the construction is sturdy and durable. No paints or stains are used, as these can be toxic to birds. The pine will weather nicely to a silver gray, blending in with the outdoor environment. The birdhouse walls are thick to keep the interior warm. Martins Like to Establish ColoniesThe Martins are attracted to these “duplexes” that are made up of multiple apartments so they can establish colonies. This house opens on four sides for easy cleaning and mounts securely on a pole. Range:The Purple Martin breeds from British Columbia, Central interior Canada and Nova Scotia southward, but absent from interior western mountains and Great Basin. They winter in the tropics. They seek open woodlands, residential areas and agricultural land.
